john barrett


John has extensive knowledge of both the construction and finance fields. A graduate of the University of Illinois at Urbana-Champaign with degrees in accounting and finance, he has also received an MBA in Real Estate Finance and Investment at DePaul’s Kellstadt GSB. As a certified public accountant and member of the AICPA, John worked in banking and public accounting before Barrett Homes. His efforts focused on multifamily housing and other areas of real estate. Outside of Barrett Homes, John is a board member of The Twin Hearts Autism Foundation ( and actively participates in several autism-related charities. Such as the Croagh Patrick mountain climb in Ireland. He keeps active chasing his sons around and loves spending time with family.

Mike barrett


Mike’s dedication to home construction began at a young age. After working in various building trades before college, Mike attended Purdue University, where he earned a degree in Construction Management. He then worked with a large, national homebuilder for several years. This opportunity allowed Mike to gain the necessary experience to become a developer and builder in Chicago. While earning an MBA in Real Estate Finance and Investment and receiving his Real Estate Broker license, Mike combined his passion for building quality homes and working with clients to begin Barrett Homes in 2005 with his brother, John. In his spare time, Mike enjoys rooting for Chicago sports teams, training on his peloton, and supporting non-profits that are making an impact in the Chicagoland area. He lives in Roscoe Village with his wife, Elisabeth and two sons, Anderson and Benjamin, they are excited to be expecting a third child on the way.
